Adobe PDF Ifilter installation for crawling the PDF files.

1.Stop the IIS admin service using services.msc
2.Download the Adobe PDF IFilter and install it on your indexing server.
3.Install this GIF () or any icon of your choosing to “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\IMAGES”
4.Edit the DocIcon.xml file at “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web server extensions\12\Template\Xml\DOCICON.XML” and add the following text under the tag.

5.Recycle the application pool of the Shared Service Provider OR do an IISRESET if you’re lazy.
6.Open the SSP Admin site (Central Administration->SharedServices1). Click on Search Settings->File Types->New File Type) and add a pdf file type.
7.Perform a full crawl on content sources. Search Settings->Content Sources and Crawl Schedules, click on the Content Source you want to perform a full crawl on. Check the Start Full Crawl check box at the bottom and then click OK. Wait for the crawl to finish.
You’re done! PDF content should start showing up in searches now!

To know the details of content dbs created using the stsadm command

TS or GO into the server/machine where sharepoint is installed and hosted.

go to cmd prompt

move to the location of 12 hive bin

run the command as shown below

stsadm.exe -o enumcontentdbs

-url

To disable or remove the site from Search visibility

browse the site where you need the site to be removed from search visibilty with full control permissions

go to Site actions -> site settings

click on Search visibility link under the Site Administration section.

select the radio button of NO as per the below image

Manage this site’s search visibility settings.

Indexing Site Content
Specify whether this site should be visible in search results.

Note: Users who do not have permission to see items in this site will not see them in search results, no matter what this setting is.

Allow this web to appear in search results?

once you select NO and click on OK button to get this site not included for search.

To delete audit entries older than a certain date using stsadm command

Go to the server(machine) where the sharepoint is hosted and

go to cmd prompt

move to the location of 12 hive bin

run the command as shown below

a date format should be like “YYYYMMDD”

To delete all draft documents under a site in sharepoint

Browse the sharepoint site where you need the information of all draft documents

clcik on the Site Actions drop down and select the View Reports and you will see the sub items under it.

Editing the existing subsite url in Sharepoint

browse to the parent site to which you want the subsite url to be changed.

go to site actions –> site settings
you see a link under look and feel section as shown below.

there you will see the section of web site address. change the url name to the correct one.

To delete a Timer JOB definition in sharepoint

If you would like to delete Sharepoint Timer Job Definitions follow these steps

- In Central Administration Home Page click Operations tab

- Then click Timer Job Definitions link

- In this page go to the job whick you want to delete

- While pointing your mouse over this job note down the GUID shown in status bar

- Then go stsadm and run this command

stsadm.exe -o deleteconfigurationobject -id

To disable the Attachment upload option to a list

go to any sharepoint site’s List, for example http://moss/_layouts/lists
browse the site with the full control level permission
 
click on the Settings – > List settings from the menu.
 
 
click on the Advanced settings  under the section of General Settings .
 
deselect the radio button “Enabled” if already enabled the option of attachment upload.
 
 

Attachments

Specify whether users can attach files to items in this list.
 
Attachments to list items are:
Enabled
     Add attachments column to default view
Disabled

Click on OK button to reflect the changes
